Noise Control for Events, Festivals and Street Fairs

Open-air concerts, festivals, street fairs and sporting events have to protect nearby residents from noise – otherwise organisers face conditions and, in the worst case, an early shutdown. Noise barrier mats on construction site fences and mobile acoustic barrier walls are quick to set up, are taken down again after the event and can double as advertising space.

Legal framework for event noise

The following refers to regulations in Germany; other countries apply their own limit values. In most German federal states, events are assessed under the Freizeitlärm-Richtlinie (the LAI guideline on leisure noise); sports facilities are covered by the 18. BImSchV (Sportanlagenlärmschutzverordnung – sports facilities noise ordinance). Permits for ‘rare events’ usually require a noise control concept that describes the screening measures. You will find more information on our page Noise control for sports and leisure facilities.

Frequently asked questions about noise control at events

Which regulations apply to events?

In Germany, usually the Freizeitlärm-Richtlinie issued by the LAI (adopted under state law), with guide values by area type and time of day plus special provisions for rare events. The responsible municipality sets the conditions in the permit.

How many mats do I need for a 50 m long stage back wall?

At 2 m height around 15 standard mats (2 × 3.5 m); at 4 m height with two rows roughly 30 mats. The quantity calculator gives you the exact number.

Can the mats be printed with sponsor logos?

Yes, we supply individually printed noise barrier mats – ideal as advertising space along the event site.

Is short-term rental available for a weekend?

For one-off events we arrange mats from our rental pool; organisers running several events a year are usually better off buying.

Do the mats withstand rain and wind?

Yes, the mats are weatherproof and UV-resistant. In exposed locations, the fence panels should be secured with ballast.
